English Country Garden Wedding

Melissa and Felix's enchanting journey led them to hosting an English Country Garden wedding in June at the beautiful St. Mary's Church in Adderbury and the picturesque Great Barn Aynho, one of the most idyllic wedding venues in Oxfordshire.

Our blog post explores their wedding's exquisite table decorations, country feel church wedding ceremony flowers, and all the floral elements Hibiscus Floral Design created for their picture-perfect day.

The Floral Ensemble: Melissa and Felix had a consultation with me after they discovered Hibiscus Floral Design on the recommended supplier list of The Great Barn. It was clear when we got chatting that they were wishing to including lots of British elements. From Melissa’s Atelier Dress designer , to an iconic double decker red London bus.

Together we designed a sustainable English country garden wedding vibe using as many locally British grown flowers as I could source in their ethereal pearled ivory, peach nectar, sweet chiffon and taupe cashmere colour styling. In all, 80% were British grown wedding flowers and 20% were sourced from Holland.

The Flower Bank: Ammi, garden roses, larkspur, peonies, apricot lisianthus, campanula, spray rose, sweet peas, apricot geum, astrantia, astilbe, panicum grass, sea lavender, pittosporum, scabious, nigella, eucalyptus, beech, rosemary, English oak, and ruscus greenery.

Church Wedding Flowers

St Mary’s Church, Adderbury

Melissa glided down an adorned aisle of English garden flower posies and was greeted not only by her betrothed but also two lush floral urns. The hired Hibiscus Floral designs’ own traditional rustic stone urns which hosted a sustainably created floral design and were placed on classic stone column pedestals to give them height and drama. These statement English country garden church wedding flower urns were also moved after the ceremony and placed in their wedding reception room at The Great barn wedding venue.

From the moment we got in touch with Claire from Hibiscus Floral Designs we knew we wanted her to create our wedding florals. Claire was incredibly approachable & knowledgeable, and I felt like she understood our vision better than ourselves!

Low wedding table decorations

As The Great Barn Aynho is such an Instagram-worthy wedding venue in Oxfordshire as it is, it was important that the wedding breakfast table decorations enhanced the natural beauty of the venue.

With a little guidance from Claire, Melissa and Felix chose low wedding table decorations in gold footed bowls. These were filled to the brim with a sustainable and eco friendly floral design. Each arrangement was finished with mismatched gold candlesticks with pastel taper dinner candles which added a gorgeous intimate feeling during the sit down dinner

This style of table arrangement is a favourite of our couples because it’s really easy for guests to take the flowers home with them at the end of the evening.

The detail of Melissa’s dress was breath taking and clear to see that it was created by a passionate team of seamstresses, fitters, embroiders and finishers that have honed their craft over decades.

When she walked through the door of the getting ready room with the bouquets, I was so happy and knew that the Church and venue would look equally gorgeous - & I was not disappointed!!

The floral set up and clear up were so seamless we didn’t notice any of it happening. Our guests were so thrilled to be able to take flowers home too.
Wish we could do it all again!
