Sustainable Wedding Flowers
At Hibiscus Floral Design, our mission is to craft exquisite wedding floral designs that celebrate the beauty of nature while prioritising sustainability. We are committed to creating stunning floral arrangements for countryside celebrations that harmonise with the environment minimising our ecological footprint.
Our vision embraces the evolving wedding industry by continuously learning and adopting sustainable practices. We actively collaborate with eco–conscious suppliers who share our values, explore innovative, earth friendly products, and use sustainable mechanics to reduce environmental impact. Our goal is to continue to develop our knowledge as an active member of the Sustainable Wedding Alliance and design florals that not only enhance a couple’s wedding day but also leave a positive impact on our planet.
From minimising packaging waste, to using reusable materials, every detail is carefully considered to align with our values of sustainability and ethical responsibility.

What does it mean?
100% Free Foam arch created using seasona British Blooms into moss and chicken wire for a Summer wedding at Billesley Manor, Stratford Upon Avon
Understanding the meaning behind these sustainability terms is essential.
For us it represents...
ECO-FRIENDLY refers to practices that involve reducing environmental impact through the floral process. For us this means using locally sourced flowers, seasonal blooms to reduce carbon footprint, avoiding floral foam where possible and opting for recyclable or compostable packaging.
BIO-DEGRADABLE refers to the materials that can naturally break down and decompose into non-toxic elements without harming the environment. This includes compostable floral foam alternatives, we use the Oshun Pouch, twig structures and paper-based products for packaging. Using these options help reduce waste and pollution, supporting more sustainable and eco- friendly floral processes
ECO-CONCIOUS means making mindful decisions to reduce environmental impact. We prioritise reducing our carbon footprint and promote practices which are healthier for the planet, while still delivering beautiful, high-quality floral designs.

Ethical and Responsible Flower Sourcing
Local Seasonal Wedding Flowers
Hibiscus Floral Design take pride in offering sustainable wedding flowers by prioritising locally grown and British seasonal blooms within our wedding flower arrangements ( April - October ) By choosing eco-friendly flowers from regional growers, you reduce your wedding’s carbon footprint and support local farmers, ensuring that your floral arrangements are fresh, vibrant, and environmentally responsible.
We work closely with trusted partners who supply us with flowers from just a few miles away, including:
Anna Brown Flowers – 12 miles
Claire’s Flowers –5 miles
My father’s cutting garden – 8.6 miles
Ethical Sourcing for Sustainable Weddings
In addition to local sourcing, we are committed to collaborating with Dutch suppliers and recommended growers who uphold the highest standards of sustainability and ethical practices. Our sustainable floral design approach means partnering with responsible growers who use eco-friendly methods, such as reducing pesticide use and encouraging biodiversity. These practices ensure that every stem we use is cultivated with care for both the environment and the people involved in the process.
Our Dutch suppliers embrace innovative packaging solutions, using returnable flower boxes that made from 100% recycled materials and are reusable up to two hundred times. After two hundred times of use, the boxes will be fully recycled and 80% of all the material is reused into a new box again!
We have opportunity to order direct from growers in South Africa, Kenya, and South America. Flowers from these destinations enjoy an equal amount of sunshine every day with no artificial heating or lighting. We can also choose specific growers who are certified according to the FSI basket of standards 2025. This institution overlooks all the social and environmental certificates that exist in the global flower industry and recognises growers who grow and harvest sustainably with attention on both the people & planet.
This forward-thinking method helps reduce waste and protect natural resources, ensuring that your choice of sustainable wedding flowers contributes to a greener, more ethical world.
Sustainable Floral Designs For Weddings
Sustainable floral design for weddings refers to creating beautiful floral arrangements using environmentally friendly and ethical mechanics and practices that minimise harm to the planet. It is about crafting your wedding flower arrangements in a way that reduces waste, lowers the carbon footprint, and supports the ecosystem, all while ensuring stunning designs for your special day.
It is important for you to know that we do not just ‘say’ we are a sustainable florist, but we actively create environmentally conscious wedding flowers with eco-friendly techniques with every single wedding that we have the privilege of flowering. You can also clearly see on our real wedding blogs that using sustainable floral mechanics still creates the most breath taking floral designs that look the same (if not better) than not using sustainable elements.
Here is how we uphold being a sustainable wedding florist:
Water conservation: Flowers need water, but that does not mean waste. We use techniques that keep blooms hydrated while reducing unnecessary water consumption.
Reusable mechanics: We limit the use of single-use floral foam and rely on natural and reusable materials like moss and chicken wire and reusable water tubes to construct stunning arrangements.
Eco-friendly alternatives: When structural support is necessary, we opt for biodegradable alternatives like bio foam and the Oshun pouch, minimizing environmental impact without compromising design.
Hibiscus Floral design is also a proud member of the Sustainable Wedding alliance. The Sustainable Wedding Alliance is collective of business with the joint purpose of creating a more sustainable, environmentally conscious wedding industry. Being a member is hugely important for me because of my deeply rooted love for nature and the world around us.
Energy Efficiency and Waste Reduction:
Creating a Greener Floral Experience
At Hibiscus Floral Design, we embrace energy-efficient practices and prioritise reducing waste to ensure your wedding flowers are as kind to the planet as they are beautiful.
Energy-Efficient Floral Practices
We take active steps to reduce our energy consumption throughout the floral design process. Here are just some of the ways we minimise our carbon footprint include:
Energy-saving lighting: By using LED or other energy-efficient bulbs in our studio, we reduce electricity usage without compromising the quality of our workspace.
Careful delivery planning: We map out delivery routes strategically to ensure that we drive the fewest miles possible, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Virtual Consultations: All our consultations are conducted via Zoom reducing the need for travel, which in turn lower our carbon emissions from our vehicle.
Minimising Waste and Promoting Reuse
Waste reduction is a key part of our commitment to sustainability. We strive to minimise waste and maximise reuse by implementing practices that reduce our environmental footprint:
Reusable transport crates: We deliver all floral designs in reusable transport crates, cutting down on single-use materials.
Eco-friendly packaging: Instead of traditional packaging, bouquets are wrapped in branded eco-friendly brown paper and tied with biodegradable twine, creating a beautiful and sustainable presentation. We strive to use the least amount of packaging materials possible and ensure any materials used are biodegradable or recyclable.
Composting and recycling: Organic waste from our studio is composted, turning leftover plant material into nutrient-rich soil. Additionally, we recycle cardboard boxes and return reusable bio flower boxes to our suppliers.
Minimal flower wastage: We plan how to maximise your flower budget with what and how many flowers you have in each floral design. We are conscious when ordering flowers not to over buy which leads to left overs that go to waste. We have faith and confidence in the flower quality that we buy for you that they will be perfect on the day of your wedding.

Fair Trade and Ethical Practices:
Supporting People Behind the Flowers
At Hibiscus Floral Design, we go beyond just beautiful arrangements by embracing fair trade practices and ensuring that everyone involved, from growers to our own team, are treated with dignity and respect.
We carefully choose suppliers who are committed to fair trade, ensuring that the people who grow and harvest your flowers receive fair wages and work in safe, healthy conditions. Additionally, we believe in investing in our own team. Every member of our staff is paid a living wage that reflects their skill and dedication to their craft, because their talents are the backbone of our sustainable floral designs.
By supporting these ethical practices, you can feel confident that your wedding flowers reflect both beauty and fairness, ensuring that no one along the supply chain is exploited in the process. It is just another way we align your wedding day with your values of sustainability and social responsibility.
Educational Outreach and Advocacy:
Inspiring Eco-Friendly Weddings
Sustainability does not stop with our flowers—it is a value we strive to share with every client. At Hibiscus Floral Design, we believe in the importance of educating and empowering couples to make eco-conscious decisions. We take the time to explain the benefits of sustainable floral design and help you choose eco-friendly flowers that align with your values and vision.
Beyond just offering sustainable options, we are passionate about spreading awareness within the floral industry. We regularly collaborate with fellow florists and suppliers to share best practices, from reducing waste to adopting more environmentally friendly techniques. By advocating for sustainable and ethical weddings, we aim to inspire more couples and professionals to embrace greener choices.
Whether you are looking to lower your carbon footprint or simply want to ensure that your wedding reflects your ethical principles, we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.
